The Russian program at the University of Tennessee fosters linguistic and cultural knowledge about one of the world's largest and most diverse nations. In addition to offering courses on language, literature and culture, the program facilitates study abroad at Tver State University, conveniently located half way between Moscow and St. Petersburg.
A special fund provides some support for those going abroad to study. A Russian major or minor is valuable for students interested in careers in business, international law, education, translation, broadcasting, social work, and other areas. For those not looking to go into educational or translating services, Russian makes an excellent second major, and not a difficult one to complete if planned carefully with an advisor.
The program also sponsors frequent films, a Russian conversation hour, and other cultural events.
